Think allergies only happen in spring? Think again — autumn can make pets just as itchy!

We tend to think of spring as allergy season, but autumn’s got a few itchy tricks up its sleeve too.

Falling leaves mean mould spores, damp grass, and dust mites — all common culprits for scratching, licking, and sneezing pets. If your dog’s turned into a full-time foot-licker or your cat’s fur is looking patchy, allergies might be the reason.

It’s not always easy to pinpoint the cause — pollen, food, even cleaning products can play a part — but we can help with tests and treatment options to calm things down. Also, we often see a surge in flea disease around this time of year as the central heating comes back on.

A quick paw wash after walks can help remove allergens, and regular vacuuming (sorry) keeps things under control indoors.

So, if your pet’s turned into an itchy mess, don’t suffer through another night of scratching — book an appointment. All our vets can see skin cases, and we also have our resident skin vet guru, Dr Rosie Skinner, who has a certificate in dermatology and can see any particularly tricky or persistent cases. Just give us a call, and we can set up an appointment for you
