Before You Travel
Check that your pet’s:
- Vaccinations are up to date
- Microchip details are current
- Parasite treatments are current
- Medication supplies are adequate
Having these essentials sorted well in advance avoids last-minute stress.
If you’re travelling to the EU with your pet you will need an “Animal Health Certificate.”This is an annoying and complicated 10-page document!! We fill them in for you within 10 days of you entering the EU.
The key thing to know is that your pet must have had a rabies vaccination 21 days prior to travel – without this we will not be able to do any paperwork for your pet and he will not be able to travel with you.
Packing for Your Pet
Think beyond food and water bowls.
Useful items include:
- Favourite toys
- Bedding
- Lead and harness
- Waste bags
- Travel water bottle
- Any medications
Familiar items can help pets feel more relaxed in unfamiliar surroundings.
Car Travel Safety
Dogs should travel securely using:
- A crash-tested harness
- A crate
- A vehicle guard
Remember to take regular breaks and never leave a pet alone in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
Beach Safety
Many dogs adore the beach, but it’s important to be aware of:
- Hot sand
- Strong currents
- Fishing hooks
- Excessive saltwater consumption
Fresh drinking water should always be available.
Boarding and Pet Sitters
If your pet is staying behind, book arrangements early, particularly during peak holiday periods.
Provide clear information about feeding routines, medications and emergency contact details.
